This class is for you if you have completed Intro to Furniture Making and would like to continue to expand and improve your woodworking skills. Through lectures, demos, and hands-on instruction, you will learn joinery for casegoods to include doweling for the case and the bridle joint and frame and panel construction for a sliding door. There will be a particular emphasis on wood selection and grain orientation while building a small hanging wall cabinet to exacting standards. This class will push you to focus on precision and aesthetics in your work.
The first class will have students milling lumber, so come prepared to work with your wood.
In addition to the weekday classroom time, there will be one day dedicated to milling. Total class time is 30 hours.
- Classes are Sundays, July 11th to August 15th, 9:00am to 2:00pm.
- Milling day on Saturday, July 17th from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Students should bring a pencil and notebook to every class. We will provide everything except for the wood, hardware, and finish that you will need for your project. The cost of project materials varies greatly based on the board footage and species of wood that you choose. Students should expect to spend at least a couple hundred dollars on materials.
Class is limited to eight students.
This workshop requires experience and comfort using the jointer, planer, table saw, and bandsaw as well as basic knowledge of milling and beginning joinery. Classes to take before this one include Intro to Woodworking and Furniture Making I: Tables. We also recommend that you take Fundamentals of Woodworking, although this class is not required.
Each eight student class has two experienced instructors. We make sure that each class has at least one woman instructor.
