This class is for students who have completed Intro to Furniture Making and would like to continue to advance their skills. This class will respond to student projects and will teach tools and techniques that are specific to the projects proposed by the students. Students will have more time to work on more advanced projects. Each student will design and build their own unique object. Instructors will be on hand to consult and advise throughout project development and production.
Students should email the instructor with ideas and sketches for a few different projects in advance of the start of the class. The first class will have students milling lumber, so come prepared to work with your wood.
In addition to the weekday classroom time, there will be one day dedicated to milling. Total class time is 40 hours.
Class schedule for the next class beginning January 2019
- Class: Tuesdays, January 8 to March 26, 6:30pm-9:30pm
- Milling Day: Saturday, January 12, 9:00am-1:00pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm
Students should bring a pencil and notebook to every class. We will provide everything except for the wood, hardware, and finish that you will need for your project. The cost of project materials varies greatly based on the board footage and species of wood that you choose. Students should expect to spend at least a couple hundred dollars on materials.
Class is limited to ten students.
This workshop requires experience and comfort using the jointer, planer, table saw, and bandsaw as well as basic knowledge of furniture design and construction. If you need to learn these skills or could use a refresher, you should first take Intro to Woodworking and Intro to Furniture Making.
