Learn classic furniture making techniques while making a beautiful wall-mounted cabinet. You can use it as tool storage for your home shop, a stunning home for your liquor and glassware, or the perfect place for your delicate knick knacks. This class will take you all the way from rough lumber to finished cabinetry. Students will mill, glue up panels, cut box joints on the table saw, create a frame-and-panel door, and learn to install hardware, all while keeping to precise measurements and working from project plans. At the end of this class, students will have the chance to customize the inside of their cabinet to fit their own needs. This project will teach you the skills to create other kinds of casework: dressers, bookshelves, cabinets, display cases, nightstands, etc.

Students should bring a pencil and notebook to every class. This class requires roughly 13 board feet of 4/4, and 3 board feet of 5/4 hardwood rough lumber. Students may purchase a lumber package from us, available in select domestic hardwoods, or bring their own lumber to the first session of this class. If you would like to bring your own lumber, please contact us ahead of time to make sure you meet the project's dimension requirements.

This class is limited to eight students.

    Class schedule

    • To be Scheduled: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00pm to 10:00pm
    • Class time totals 40 hours

This workshop requires that students first take Intro to Woodworking. This prerequisite class teaches the function and safe use of the jointer, planer, table saw, and bandsaw and also teaches the very important skill of milling rough lumber flat and square. In our experience, almost everyone benefits from taking Intro to Woodworking, but please email if you think that you already have these skills and knowledge.

We also recommend that you take Intro to Joinery and Furniture Making: Tables, although they are not required. These classes build on the basics of milling, introduce the concept of wood movement, teach how to cut boards to specific dimensions accurately and precisely, and present basic wood joinery.

      Health & Safety:
Allied Woodshop requires all students 12 years of age and older and all instructors to be fully vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, against COVID-19 to attend a group class. Proof of vaccination will need to be shown at the start of the class. If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 48 hours prior to the class may be accepted. If using a rapid home test, it must be taken the morning of the class. For a multi-session class, a new negative test result will be required each week. There is no need for a second test for a class that takes place over 2 consecutive days.

N95, KN95, or surgical masks covering the nose and mouth are required during all classes. Cloth masks are no longer acceptable face coverings during classes. Allied will provide a mask for any student that needs one.

If you have any questions about this policy, please email us at for a prompt response.

Each eight student class has two experienced instructors. We make sure that each eight person class has at least one woman instructor.
