I’d like to be a member of Allied Woodshop. How much is rent and what does it include?

Rent for full-time members is $720/month and rent for part-time members is $410/month. That includes bench space, a small amount of materials storage, and most consumables (e.g. rags, glue brushes, sandpaper, dust masks, etc.). We do not provide wood, glue, or finish. Rent also covers a part-time shop tech who keeps our machines in good working order.

Is there a security deposit?

Yes, there is a $700 refundable deposit.

What are the hours?

Full-time members have unlimited access to the shop and part-time members can access the shop before 9am or after 5pm on weekdays and anytime on the weekends.

How do I sign up for membership?

Please submit an application. We’ll be in touch to schedule a shop visit.

I have one project to build. Can I rent space for a week?

Sorry, no. We aren’t equipped to handle project-based access to the shop. We’re looking to build a community of long-term members.

Do I need to have experience to join Allied Woodshop?

Yes, you have to have a basic understanding of the function and safe use of the woodworking machines. If you’d like to join but you don’t have any experience, please consider taking our Intro to Woodworking and Intro to Furniture Making workshops.

How many woodworkers work at the shop?

We have bench space for five full-time makers and four part-time makers. We accept new members as space is available.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Yes, we're looking for people who are interested in being a long-term member of our community and there is a six-month minimum commitment.
