CLASSES

Which class should I take first?
Allied Woodshop offers woodworking classes for beginners, as well as many specialty classes covering a variety of techniques and skills

If you’re interested in becoming an accomplished furniture maker, we recommend following "The Furniture Maker's Path" on our classes page. This starts you off at Intro to Woodworking, followed by Intro to Joinery. You can save money by signing up for both classes with our Woodworking Package. From there, we suggest you take Furniture Making: Tables, and Advanced Furniture Making: Cabinets. These classes will give you a solid foundation of common woodworking machines and techniques, and repeat experience in milling, measuring, marking, and cutting joinery.

Our classes along "The Scenic Route" offer opportunities for beginners as well as advanced woodworkers in specialized skills. Most of these classes are available à la carte and can be taken at any time. They cover a range of topics from Model Making to Sculpting to Danish Cord Weaving.

Do I need woodworking experience to attend a class?
Each class description says if a prerequisite class is required. Intro to Woodworking is a prerequisite for most Furniture Making classes.

Do you offer womxn-only classes?
Yes! We offer both Intro to Woodworking and our Woodworking Package in classes just for women/trans/non-binary individuals. We hope to expand the number of womxn's classes in the future, but current demand isn't high enough.

I signed up for a class but I can’t make it. What are my options?
All classes can be refunded, minus a 10% registration fee, up to one month in advance of the class. Students can transfer to a future class with at least two weeks advance notice. No portion of the course fee will be refunded or transferred less than two weeks before the class start date. To cancel or transfer your spot, please email hello@alliedwoodshop.com.

There are no refunds, transfers, make-ups, or deferments for missed sessions in multi-day classes.

I signed up for private instruction but I'm no longer interested. What is your refund policy?
Private instruction can be refunded up to three months after purchase, minus a $50 registration fee. Please email hello@alliedwoodshop.com to schedule your hours or request a refund.

Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes! You can purchase Woodworking Bucks here. Woodworking Bucks are delivered by email and contain instructions on how to redeem them at checkout.

Can my kid take a class? Can I come too?
We offer youth woodworking classes for private instruction. These classes are mostly suitable for kids aged 10-17. Please send us an email if you're interested in booking private instruction for your child. We will work with you to schedule a class that's appropriate for your child's age and level of interest. You’re welcome to take the class with your child. Private instruction is for up to 2 students.

Do you offer private instruction?
Yes, we do offer private instruction at the rate of $125/hour. We require a three hour minimum and we ask that you contact us in advance of purchasing the hours so that we can plan your time in the shop. Learn more here.

Do you offer private classes for groups?
Yes! We love to host corporate groups, families, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and birthday parties. You can see our list of prepackaged events here, and you can always contact us if you don’t see what you’re looking for. We can build custom experiences for your group. Please email us at hello@alliedwoodshop.com to see if we can accommodate your request.

Where do I park?
Free parking is available on-site and along the street.

What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. Boots or sneakers are fine and long pants are preferable. Do not wear loose or baggy clothing. Tie back long hair and leave dangly jewelry at home. Please note, this is a woodshop with no AC. You can expect to get sweaty and dusty in the summer and dusty and cold in the winter, so please dress for the weather. Woodworking is hard work!

What are my lunch options?
We’ll break for lunch around 12:00pm. There are a number of restaurants nearby. You're also welcome to bring lunch and eat at the shop. There is a refrigerator and microwave available.
