Learn the art of Danish cord weaving from our own local master, David Johnson of Sidecar Furniture. Each student will receive a handcrafted footstool that they will then complete by weaving the top. Whether you're an expert weaver in other mediums or completely new to warps and wefts, spend the day having fun with us and walk away with an heirloom quality item.
All tools and materials are included. Class is limited to eight students. Class time is 6 hours, including a lunch break.
Footstool frames measure 10.5"x10.5"x12" and come in a choice of cherry or ash hardwood.
Starting September 30, 2021, Allied Woodshop will require all students and instructors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend a group class. Proof of vaccination will need to be shown at the start of the class. If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours prior to the class may be accepted. For a multi-session class, a new negative test result will be required each week. There is no need for a second test for a class that takes place over 2 consecutive days.
If you have any questions about this policy, please email us at email@example.com for a prompt response.
Masks covering the nose and mouth will still be required during all classes.
David Johnson specializes in the conservation of Danish Modern chairs with woven seats. Self-taught as a seat weaver from the definitive book on the subject, The Caner’s Handbook, David later worked for the book’s author at The Caning Shop in Berkeley, CA. He has also written an article about his unique Danish cord weaving technique for Fine Woodworking, which you can find here.
