Experience the quiet pleasure of woodworking with hand tools while making a beautifully simple Japanese tool box. Over the course of the day, students will learn the function and safe use of hand saws, hand planes, and chisels. After practicing with the tools, instructors will teach students to mill a board four-square and to cut finger joints by hand. Finally, students will fine tune a hand plane to prepare the box parts for finishing. No sanders here!

This is a great class for those who would like to start woodworking with hand tools at home and are wondering which tools to buy. Rent a set from us and come try them out while making a box!

Total class time is 7 hours and limited to two students.

All wood, hardware, and finishing supplies are included. This workshop requires you to bring or rent a set of hand tools from the shop for $40. You can book your tool rental on the Hand Tool Rental page. The tools you will need include the following.
