Have you ever wanted to build a piece of furniture but didn’t know where to start? If yes, then this class is for you. Through lecture and hands-on demonstrations, you will learn project planning, lumber selection, the safe use of woodworking machines and hand tools, basic joinery to include the edge joint and the mortise and tenon, assembly, glue-ups, and finishing. With this information and with help from our instructors, you will design and build your own unique table. Successful projects are modest in scale, like a side table or a small coffee table.
Students should bring a pencil and notebook to every class. We will provide everything except for the wood, hardware, and finish that you will need for your project. The cost of project materials varies greatly based on the board footage and species of wood that you choose. Students should expect to spend a minimum of a couple of hundred dollars on materials.
In addition to the classroom time, there will be an optional field trip to the lumberyard.
Total instruction time is 18 hours and limited to two students.
Shortly after purchasing the class, you'll receive an email from us about scheduling.
This workshop requires that students first take Intro to Woodworking. This prerequisite class teaches the function and safe use of the jointer, planer, table saw, and bandsaw and also teaches the very important skill of milling rough lumber flat and square. In our experience, almost everyone benefits from taking Intro to Woodworking, but please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you think that you already have these skills and knowledge.
We also recommend that you take Fundamentals of Woodworking, although it is not required. This class builds on the basics of milling, introduces the concept of wood movement, teaches how to cut boards to specific dimensions accurately and precisely, and presents basic wood joinery.
Each private class will be paired with one of our talented and experienced instructors.
